The FCS Association was formed to raise funds for an artificial playing surface to be installed at the Forfar Academy campus.

“The proposed pitch will be a fenced and floodlit 2G surface and will ensure that sport can be played when the current grass pitches are unplayable due to weather conditions,” explained Joseph Mitchell in his application for the award.

“This surface is designed to allow different sports to be played on it, making the pitch multi-purpose and ensuring the maximum utilisation in all weathers.

“It is intended that football, hockey, basketball and tennis can all be played on this surface, which will also provide a training facility for rugby and athletics.”

The school pupils will have access to the facility throughout the school day, while, during evenings, weekends and school holidays the facility will be open to various community clubs such as youth and amateur football, hockey and rugby clubs as well as the general public.

The estimated cost of providing the surface is in the region of £400,000, with a percentage of the cost being met by grant funding and over £100,000 having been pledged already.

THE ARBROATH lifeboat received a welcome boost last week when a Forfar charity presented them with a cheque, writes Scott Lorimer.
Margaret Wilson of the Jockey Jan Memorial Fund (JJMF) presented a cheque for £2,000 on Friday at the Lifeboat Shed.
The money donated to Arbroath RNLI was raised from a dance held in the Strathmore Hall in Forfar on June 2.
The ‘Shindig for 8’ charity dance, realised around £31,000 in total, with eight charities benefiting from the funds raised.
The event offered a barbecue, provided by Scott Brothers Butchers and music by the Lomond Ceilidh Band and High Mileage. Special prizes were also donated for the charity auction, including passes to Ayr racecourse.
JJMF founder Margaret Wilson said: “I asked a few charities if they wanted to come together for a charity event. Forfar Lifeboat  and a few others decided not to be on the committee, so I came to the Arbroath RNLI and spoke to Barbara Cargill because I still think the lifeboat is a good charity to give to.”
Arbroath RNLI treasurer Ann Watt commented: “I’d like to thank Margaret and all her helpers at the Shindig for 8 Charity Dance and the Jockey Jan Memorial Fund. £2,000 is a fabulous amount of money to receive as it will help with the running of the lifeboat as well as covering costs of training and vital equipment needed for the crew.”
Margaret, originally from Arbroath, also made donations of £2,000 to charities including Cystic Fibrosis (Tayside), Diabetes UK Scotland, Ninewells Paediatric Gastroenterology Fund and Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia.
Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland and the Jockey Jan Memorial Fund received £6,500 and Lippen Care Forfar £7,000.
The list of charities to benefit from the dance are as follows: Cystic Fibrosis (Tayside), Diabetes UK Scotland, Jockey Jan Memorial Fund, RNLI, Lippen Care, Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland, Ninewells Paediatric Gastroenterology Fund and Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia.
The Jockey Jan Memorial Fund was started by Margaret after her daughter Jan died in a fire in York while training to be a jockey. The fund is aimed at helping young people to achieve their full potential.

A Big Thank You

A very successful charity dance was held at Strathmore Hall, Forfar Mart, Forfar and the organiser and helpers would like to thank everyone who made the evening such a success.  There are far too many to thank individually but thanks must go to all companies and individuals who donated food, prizes for the Charity Auction, Silent Auction and Raffle and companies who paid to display their banners on the evening in the Hall and Adverts and messages in the Programme, without their support the event would not have been so successful.
Thanks also to volunteer helpers representing MS, Jockey Jan and Lippen Care, family and friends who worked hard on the evening of the event before and after.
Final totals are still to be worked out and will be published as soon as possible but it is anticipated this will be in excess of £20,000.00

The Lucky numbers were drawn on the Sunday morning when we were tiding up at the Hall by Paul and Julie Lodge who travelled up from Malton North Yorkshire to be at the event Paul is a Racing Welfare Officer who was a great Support to all those connected by the Malton Fire

MORNING ON THE GALLOPS IN CHESHIRE Morning on gallops with breakfast for 4 people on a date to be arranged that is convenient for both parties.
The morning will begin at 8.30am when trainer Tom Dascombe or his assistant trainer Colin Gorman will welcome you. You will then be taken to watch the horses warm up, then view them on the gallops; breakfast will be served in owners’ lounge which over looks the yard and gallops, then for a tour of yard to meet the staff and horses. If convenient you will be able to view a horse swimming in the equine pool or being treated in the equine spa. The morning will finish at around 11.30am. You will be welcome to take pictures and videos of the yard and horses.
