29 September saw the annual Forfar Academy Sponsored Walk around Forfar Loch.  A lovely sunny afternoon saw

the pupils and staff of the Academy walk or run twice around the Loch, all in the name of charity.  It is the school’s main fund raising event

and early indications suggests that around £8,000 was raised and will be used in a number of ways, including donations to charities chosen by the

school’s Charities Committee. In conjunction with the annual sponsored walk, there are awards up for grabs for those that choose to run the Loch.

Seventy-three pupils decided they were going to run this year and the standard was very high.

Prizes are on offer for 1st-3rd place overall for boys and girls and also for 1st placed 1st year boy and girl.

The main prizes of 1st placed boy and girl receive the Jan Wilson memorial trophies,

which have been donated to the school by Jan Wilson’s parents.

Jan was an ex-pupil of the school who tragically died while working as a jockey down in England.

This year’s winners and results were:

Girls:
1st-Erin Brown, 45.56 minutes, which was a new school record for girls.
2nd-Rowan Ramage, 58.40

Well done to all winners and to all runners who took part!

All pupils involved in the walk and run were on their best behaviour and were an excellent advert to Forfar Academy.

A big thank you must go to all members of staff, whose support allowed the walk to once again be a massive success.
